Americans have cut back on buying cars, furniture and clothes in a tough economy, but there's one consumer item that's still enjoying healthy sales: guns. Purchases of firearms and ammunition have risen 8 to 10 percent this year, according to state and federal data.
Several variables drive sales, but many dealers, buyers and experts attribute the increase in part to concerns about the economy and fears that if Senator Barack Obama of Illinois wins the presidency, he will join with fellow Democrats in Congress to enact new gun controls. Obama has said that he believes in an individual right to bear arms but that he also supports "common-sense safety measures."
Common sense is something dreadfully lacking in our gov these days. Make NO mistake, gun ownership and the freedoms we all hold dear will be under attack.
The Leviathan is hungry.

I'm almost disappointed in the spike in sales.
Now, everyone has nice, fresh 4473's for Obama's minions to investigate/confiscate, like crows on a turkey nest.
(Or McCain's minions; they're two sides of the same coin.)
That's a good point. It's going to take folks standing together, regardless of party, etc., to hang on to this basic right.
Hi Benjamin,
I think that this is one of the things that will split the Union. Rather than allow anyone to strip a basic right, the several States will secede. Especially, if anyone has sense, knowing that this means he will move in dictatorship... and the people will be unarmed. Hitler disarmed the people first, as I recall my history. It's not just a lofty ideal to have gun rights - it's a basic protection against a man such as this man, imo.
Only the seceding States will be free, imo. I think Obama is a grave threat to democracy - esp. given his voicing even the concept of a Civilian National Security Force. He has some very strange thoughts inside of him, I'm sure, for him to have that thought and voice it. He really does see himelf as his brother's keeper and that's how dictators think, imo. Very paternalistic and dictatorially controlling. Stripping gun rights will be something he does to advance his overall agenda which includes that Civilian National Security Force. That's quite threatening, imo.
Grace :)

In 2009, I'm going to sit back and watch Obama lead, and make good on his magical promises. You see, even Californians can't live off tear-inducing slogans. Or fake landslides. In the end, 2008, the symbolic election, is important for obvious reasons, but so too is running a country, and even symbols must lead.
